The July 2016 Crisis in South Sudan

Heavy fighting which broke out in Juba on 8 July 2016 has further exacerbated the political, economic and social crises aflicting South Sudan, and has yet again highlighted the drivers of conflict: deep-rooted mutual suspicion, disregard of the rule of law, absence of institutions for dispute resolution, and widespread economic deprivation.

The overarching goal of UNDP’s Integrated Crisis Response Programme (ICRP) is to support recovery and stabilization and lay down a strong foundation for national reconciliation and sustainable development.
